New owner of a 1994 roadster (had a 1970 roadster before),the glass window has separated from the canvas, local GM dealer was no help, upholstry shop couldn,t help either.Any one have any ideas? Thanks.
I have heard about this problem from many vert. owners.I have had this on my 95 Vert. The previous owner used GE silicone (clear)around the perimeter of the window and the canvas Area that it seats on.It works great.I have had my top down many times and there are no problems.Be careful that you do not get the silicone on the canvas top as it may be hard to get off.You will probably need 2 people to do a good job.The only other option is to replace the top and that is $$$ especially if the top is in good condition as mine is.

Good Luck
If it is only separated in certain places or one place, may I suggest putting whatever you are going to use to glue it back together onto a piece of non-corrugated cardboard (like a cereal box is made of) folded in half. Use that to squeeze the glue into the opening between the window and the canvas. I would take the extra precaution of using masking tape to cover the canvas just in case.
I had this happened and I replaced the top with a new one. I thought about trying to glue it but I didn't think it would work. The window appears to be somehow stiched/glued into the cloth top from the factory. The way it ripped off there was not enough surface area for any glue to adhear to the window and the top. I had ducked taped it all the way around for a couple of weeks until the top came in. If it has worked for others maybe you should try it first. I would just hate for it to come flying out the back at high speed if not secured enough.
I have not had a glass problem with my 94 convertible yet. I did inherit a problem with the stayfast cloth ripping at the stitching just behind the drivers window, though. The rip was 5 stitches long when i bought it from the original owner. When it got to 7 stitches long I got worried.
I had a tube of general purpose"Amazing Goop" laying around the garage. It is billed as sticking anything to anything, forever.I pulled the stayfast cloth up and applied a generous amount of Amazing Goop inside the rip...then I pulled the edge of the rip back to the stitching and pushed the cloth down on the edge of the rip so that the Goop stayed inside and did not ooze out. There was a big bulge under the cloth where the Goop was.I pressed down and gently worked the Goop around and spread it out until the entire length of the rip was sealed.I let it dry a couple of days. That was 2 years ago.I really did not think it would hold ....but it has so far. I don't spray water on the top when I wash the car but it has withstood a few downpours.
That little tube of Amazing Goop that i bought at the auto parts store saved me mega bucks.I would have soon had to replace the whole top because of that one lousy tear at the seam.
thanks for the tips, the Amazing Goop sounds like the way to go. I,ll post results soon as i have 'em. Thanks again to all.
Like I said...I used the general purpose Amazing Goop. They make other versions that are for more specific uses. Some of them may actually be waterproof. They have website that tells more about the specialty versions.
Good luck with that
