Automatic transmission problem
I have a 1984 C4 that has just started having a problem with shifting out of 1st when cold (below 40 F) until it warms up for 15 minutes. The fluid and filter were changed a year ago, 53,000 actual miles. the fluid was replaced with Mobil synthetic.

Are you certain that the filter was changed? Was the pan dropped? Alot of oil change places will pump or flush the fluid and never change the filter.
A dirty filter will make the transmission act as you have described. A cold and dirty filter does not flow very well, but a hot and dirty filter will flow much better.
