Has anyone used the Freeze 12 stuff that is advertised on e-bay as an r12 substitute? Do you just charge the system with the freeze 12 and your done? Seems too simple, what's the scoop, anyone know? Any insight will be appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Nope - it's 80% R134 meaning that all the old stuff had better be outta there or you'll never have satisfactory operating pressures. So, why not just use the real stuff? Especially since a shop would be willing to work on it if you do (sometimes that becomes necessary if you screw it up bad enough) and not so willing if you put something else in it. OR, get your license for $25 at www.epatest.com and buy all the R12 you want.

Can't go wrong with R12. All these replacements claim to be magical, I don't buy it.

Does that mean it's 80% as effective as R134a (ie, less effective than both R134a and R12), and the other 20% is stuff to make it compatible with the R12 that's still in there?

all my R12 leaked out about 5 years ago. I bought a 134 retrofit kit, had my compressor resealed for $60, and it's blowing out the duct @45 degrees. Who cares if it's as efficient or not, the duct temp tells all

Agree, assuming you do it right - do it wrong and it can blow up.
