Default Tranny problem

Well today I left to go to work, and noticed when I turned my car on it sounded funny, anyway I went to put it in reverse and it shifted hard hmmm I thought that nothing major, well went to put it in drive and pressed the gas and the car would not shift in gear the rpms just kept going up I slowed down and gave it some more gas and it did the same thing. Does anybody know whats wrong Im thinking my transmission just went out on me?

Did you have no forward gears or did it not shift out of first gear into second gear

Years ago I had a '72 Cutlass that did that - could only drive it in reverse. I kept getting farther and farther away from home. I still can't remember where I left that car.....

yeah I had forward, but it wouldnt shift in second gear the rpms just kept going up, and it shifted very hard in reverse for some reason.

It could be many things ranging from a solenoid or valve stuck in the valve body.It could also be a broken band, band anchor, sunshell etc.
You need a pro. The fact that has reverse eliminates the torque converter and blocked filter.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that it is a broken reaction shell. Sometimes this is called a sunshell also.

So is this something That I can fix or do I need to take it to a corvette specialist?

I don't know about a Corvette specialist but you do need a knowledgeable transmission specialist.

Yes. I was thinking that was the loud bang he described.

It might be smart to pull the thing out, box it up and send it up to Nanticoke, PA.

What if it simply makes a loud screeching noise on occasion when shifting into reverse?
