Default Exhaust Question

How loud is the stock exhaust on the LT4? Is there any way to tell if the mufflers are stock or aftermarkets? A few people have told me that my car does not sound stock and has more of a rumble to it than other LT4's. When tooling down the road about 60 or so there is quite a bit of resonance in the car. When taking off from a stop and shifting through the gears the exhaust tone is very deep. Also there is a definite rumble when the car is just sitting at idle. I haven't heard any other LT4's or GS'S for comparision and am just curious what the previous owners might have done to the car. Thanks.

Mine's pretty quiet.. but the DOT standards dictate that. You sure you have the stock system? Ecklers sells an aftermarket system with black tips that look stock.

Leo,

It's obvious you need to join us at the Bowling Green Gathering next May for a Grand Sport lineup so you can hear the exhausts yourself!!! :)

My stock GS had a bit of a rumble at idle, but was very quiet above that. No resonance at all, any RPM. From the engine back: a cat on each side, then a one-piece exhaust system consisting of a central resonator and a muffler on each side. If yours isn't one piece from the cats back, it's been modded.

As you heard in Hutch's thread, the Corsa let's the LT4 sing!

Brad

Did you try getting under the car and looking. You should be able to tell if the exhaust has been changed.

I've had the car up on a lift and did a check underneath it. The exhaust runs through the cats then a single resonator to the mufflers. The system is intact from the manifolds back with the exception of the exits of the cats. I could not see any markings on the mufflers and was curious if there was any way to identify a non-stock muffler. When everyone says it is quiet inside and you can't hear it, well mine you can definitely tell I'm close by and on the road the exhaust just sings like music to ones ear. I have never heard another LT4 so was curious of how they should sound.
I am going to try and make the "gathering" in May. Right now it is next to impossible for to know what I'm doing week to week. I might be deployed by then who knows, but if i'm here I have it marked for the trip to Bowling Green.
Thanks for all the replies, I'm in search of another LT4 in the area to compare exhaust signatures.

hey 96GrandSport, if you are planning on visiting the northern virginia/dc area anytime soon, drop me a line. id be glad to give you a listen to the Power Effects on my GS. ive heard both the Corsa and PE, and i second Hutch's opinion ("...Corsas too quiet.."). not that the GS needs anything ELSE to draw attention, right? Peace.. :)
