I'm gaining ground, and losing money. My 87's AC now works. The MAF and both relays have been replaced. It runs better, but still rough.
I was going to do the exhaust next year, but that may be accelerated. The pipe going into the right muffler is loose and just rattling. Doesn't hurt anything, but sounds terrible. I'm looking for a good price on a Magnaflow catback.
Next item, the spark plugs are old, and probably should be replaced. Is AC Delco the way to go? I've heard/read that NGK is good stuff. I saw a "kit" online for $80 that includes AC Delco wires, rotor, cap and plugs. I'm not a racer, but I want it to run right.
Finally, when looking at the exhaust, I had it up on a lift. I noticed the oil pan looks like crap. It's solid, but rust brown. Any suggestions on how to paint that thing, and what to use?
Dale: on my modified 87 i just run ac delco rapidfire #5 and they work well, no problems. Running ruff could be the IAC & TB need cleaning, also resetting the TPS also helps.
Oil pan, remove if you want, clean, prep, paint.

Ok, cleaning the TB is easy. How to clean the IAC? Heck, I don't even know where it is.
How do you reset the TPS?
Ok, prep, paint, that's easy, what type of paint? Just some engine paint?
I used AC Delco Rapidfires as well. However, I still haven't tackled the wires. They look to be a real biotch to replace I have the Magnaflow catback on my car and love them The sound great and look even better.
I did the oil pan on my 91 last year, remove, clean with water soluble de-greaser then get it sand blasted then paint it yourself with rattle tins or better still a paint gun if you`ve got acsess to a compressor, sand blasting gets into all the little nooks & crannies and removes all the rust
the results are well worth the effort .
Still haven't had a chance to pull a plug. It has a hesitation, but not bad. I think cleaning the throttle and adjusting the TPS is a great start. This weekend will be a Vette weekend for me.
And, the new Magnaflow cat-back has been ordered. My $7k vette has turned into a $9k vette, but it's getting closer to what I want.
