Default Cats off?

i'm looking to remove my cats this week and run pipes back to the stock mufflers. mostly to get a little more sound. i dont have any emitions restrictions where i live (but i do feel a little mother earth guilt).

will i have any problems with O2 sensors or the computer with the change that will affect the engine running correctly?

thanks!

other than the fact it's illegal...

I have to say, I find it annoying as hell when people want to increase the ground level pollution, just because their car isn't loud enough.

A few thoughts for you:

1. more noise = more attention from law enforcement. Do you want tickets for noise? It's becoming more and more common.

2. It looks like your's is a 1994. As such, removing them won't add but MAYBE 10hp. They are VERY efficient, if anything, you will loose torque.

3. Have you considered eliminators? I did that... and the resonance made my ears bleed. I ended up with Corsas.

4. If you want loud, add long tube headers, a pair of bullet cats, xpipe and a set of good mufflers. Don't forget the hot cam. at least it won't stink up the joint.

never said i wanted LOUD.. or a lecture for that matter. just looking for a little more rumble. i'm not looking for HP, the cars already faster than i can drive it. i dont want eliminators or headers because i still want to be able to talk to my wife in the car. and i dont have $2500+ lay down for a full exhaust makeover. so i thought a little sneaky pipework would cover all the needs.

thanks for you input!

Ok, I hate to pile on, but I'm going to pile on. It's pretty rare that someone wants a lecture, but it's also very common for someone to be in need of one.

I'm not a tree hugger. But, I'm responsible. Having cats is a very small sacrifice for the greater good. Don't take them off. If you want louder, save up for some stingers or muffler eliminators or some other product that will accomplish your goal.

Responsiblity is a good thing. Keeping your cats, not street racing, basic things that will help us all. (And give Vette owners a good name).

Ok, done piling on. Enjoy the drive.

It's a shame that for a little rumble, as you put it, you're willing to pollute. I know people (children) with lung problems. I think they're wellbeing is more important than a little rumble. As was mentioned earlier, try muffler elims. A muffler shop can fabricate a pair for you at about the same price as eliminating the cats. And, you might not have the kind of computer problems eliminating the cats could cause.
