The far left taillight has gone out on my '85. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get to it to replace it. I called the local Chevy dealer for "advice" and was told that the entire back bumper cover needed to be removed in order to get to it. This doesn't sound right to me, and there's got to be an easier way. Any suggestions?
If its the same as my 86 its just Patience and tolerance to pain.
I can JUST get my arm up past the exhaust enough to get hold of the bulb holder, its a real pain but can be done if you haven't got to big an arm
One of my inner taillights is missing some hardware and rattles around, but I cant get to the other one good enough to figure out what size nut to get much less thread it on there! I think it could be done with the gas tank dropped, anybody have any tips for this?

10MM.
You might be able to reach it with the license plate and back-up light removed. (That's the most common way to do it)

Sounds about what a dealer would tell you. did they give you a quote for labor?
I'm a little guy with real skinny arms. I was just barely able to get to all 4 on my 85 without taking anything apart.
Thanks for the info. I did remove the license plate frame and back up lights. Scraped up my knuckles, but was able to get to the bulb and replace it. Spent $3 on the bulb, versus $100+ to get it done by the local Chevy dealer! :o
