Default Jacking

Hey All,
Is there a special jack for the C4 (96)?
My car came used with the spare but no Jack. Can I use one that I had from an old Ranger? I also have a floor jack but I am afraid of using it for fear of damaging the body/underparts. Where do I put it to lift the car and is it safe to do in a home garage?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Like the above article shows, jacking is easy on a C4.
Look underneath the car and familiarize yourself with the frame.

I never use the Gm jack to jack my C4. But if you want a stock jack, you can probably get one from forum vendor vette2vette. He runs a Corvette salvage yard.

The foregoing replys have given you good info. You might also want to take a look at http://www.zr1registry.com/ On the left hand menu click on "maintenance" and another menu will appear below this. Click on "ZR-1 How to" and then scroll down the page to "How to Jack Up a ZR-1. by Michael Hom" - Lots of pictures and also mentions using a hockey puck on top of your floor jack which I found was a great idea. One of the replys mentioned the E-Z Jack adapter which works great too.

The jacking article cited by Michael is how I jack the front and the rear before I got the EZ- jack and where I place jack stands

I only have the lug wrench behind my seat. My jack is in a bag within the spare tire.

If your jack was behind the drivers seat on the floor, then somebody moved it there. From the factory, 1996 jacks were installed in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. The lug nut wrench was bolted down behind the drivers seat.

Floor jacks work good. But, I have to ride up on 2 by 10 boards to get clearance for the jack under the front end. I usaully place the jack under the crossbar by the transmission.

The Jack for my '94 is in the same place, always has. Look under the storage bin tray inside the compartment behind the passenger side seat. This is where your Bose radio reciever should be located as well.

I found that to be a problem also. I then found an aluminum Craftsman floor jack that has a clearance of only 2". It works like a charm although it cost almost $200. Only about 3 or 4 pumps and vioalla, your car is raised almost 16". Money well spent, in my opinion.
