Windshield Wiper removal

I'm trying to remove the driver's side windshield wiper on my 85 to replace it with a new one, and the damn thing wont budge. I was able to get the passenger side off with just a screwdriver.

Anyone have any tricks to safely remove it, without using the GM tool? I was thinking vise-grips, but I can't find my set

Some have lock tab on them, check........

This does have the tab lock, but it moves freely. I just can't pry the bugger loose to remove it from the splined shaft.

Pry the clip out on the bottom, then pry up. Mine came off easily, but it was broken. The new one cost $100 and had a sticker on it that said made in Mexico.

I pulled the tab out and put the visegrip to it. I rocked it a few times and it busted loose. The visegrip made some deep grooves in it, but I didn't care, its getting tossed. New ones are on and look the way they're supposed to.
