Got tired of pulling the fuse out whenever working in the engine compartment or set up at vette meets, so I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a simple SPST switch rated at 20a ($1.89), heat shrink tubing ($1.98), had some 12gauge cooper stranded wire and electrical tape in the tool box. Cut the COLD side of the fuse line and spliced the 2 leads from the switch in series with the fuse. This took maybe 5 minutes sitting on a stool alongside the left front tire wheel well opening. There is a small triangular brace (2nd photo) that has a bumber stop for the hood in front of the wheel well. This is were I drilled and mounted the switch. I used the heat shrink tubing to cover the connections and the wires from the switch to the fuse location. Apologize that the pics are not real clear but you can see the switch just in front of the hood bumber stop:
Another even cheaper mod to accomplish the same thing is simply unplug the hood lites where they plug into the wiring harness. I did that shortly after I bought my '96 several years ago and 3 years later when I got ready to sell it I simply plugged the hood lites back up. I never needed them in the three years they were disconnected.

That too is a good solution. I was looking for something that was easier than pulling the fuse out (and forgetting to put it back in later), or unplugging the connectors everytime when I was going to have the hood open for long periods of time. I had a look at the by-bass setup that several vendors have and decided I didn't feel the need or desire to run wiring around the base of the hood and have to attach them with velcro or cable ties. Since I open and close the hood from the driver's side this setup fit my needs very well.
Happy motoring to all and have a great Memorial Day weekend

I did the same thing. Its not like they're bright enough to help you see or anything.
