Hey all. I am having my cracked windshield replaced, (86 coupe) and I will be supplying the gasket. The general wants a stupid price for his....has anyone had any experience with aftermarket windshield gaskets? I know sometimes Ecklers, MidAm, and the others want more than ebay on things like this for the same items...and since it's probably gonna leak anyway....(lol), what to do. input? anyone? thanks

There is no gasket, the windshield seals to the frame with urethane out of a tube. So I assume you're talking about the weatherstripping.
Use ONLY gm for this piece if yours isn't reusable. The aftermarket ones are all crap and too stiff to seal correctly or allow your top to fit without forcing it. Chris May at Superior Chevy has it for about $220 with the corvetteforum discount. FWIW, my glass place would not warranty the work if I provided my own GM parts, they wanted the markup. But what good is a warranty if the shop is incapable of doing the work correctly no matter how many attempts?
I hope you got a good glass shop with C4 experienced techs or you're in for a rude awakening. Mine took 40 days to even get a half-assed result. (side note: every shop will claim they are experienced on C4s to get the job)
There's also a foam piece that goes at the base of the glass that seals the gap between the dash and frame. This is about $20 from GM.
As centralcoaster said use the GM for this gasket, I also recommend GM for the 'B' pillar gasket as well, the rubber is so much softer and provides a better seal.
