Default Headlight Bushing install Help

Guys I have bought new bushings for my vette's headlights. However the instructions I got seemed easy enough, I can't seem to get past a certain road block. I got the light out and the motor cover off but I can't seem to get the gear itself out. I loosened the worm gear like it told me to do. Still no luck. I have even gotten a second set of instructions from corvette fever and they really dont help me much either. In the pics on the instructions they have the gear comming right out but dont inculde a metal piece on the outside of the gear preventing it from comming out. I wanted to see if anyone that has done this knows what I'm talking about. I also have lost one of the cotter pins does anyone know where I can get on of those too.

Can you see the plastic gear? I put a small screwdriver into the roll pin hole (on the shaft)for leverage, and worked it back and forth with some upward pressure until the gear popped out. Those roll pins can be found in most any auto parts store.

Here's a link to the instructions I just used to replace mine. As the instructions state, and I do recall it being a pain to pull the gear.

Thanks for the links guys..I just got the gear off. The old bushings looked like pure white snow. Now that I got it all apart, it looks like putting it all back together will be just as interesting.

I dropped my cotter pin also....use a thin but well fitting nail and trim it.

You can get those roll pins from any hardware store. I did.

GM also chose to use one in the hood release lever. I found THAT out the hard way after mine backed out this weekend during Cruise-In, causing my cables to slip out of their mounts and leaving ME temporarily unable to open my hood.

Thank God for Gordon Killebrew!

I have another problem now...I have the motor apart...I installed the bushings...but in my rush to get it apart i was careless and didnt really organize the parts like i should have... Anyone have a VERY specific link on how to put the entire headlight piece back together...I could just look at the other one...but that would require me taking it apart also which i dont want to do.
