Default Center Cap Locking Nut Advice

I have an 89 vert with wheels that have the center caps that are held on by a special locking bolt. I have the locking wrench that came with the car when I bought it and I was able to get all of the center caps off except one. I had to end up taking to a dealer to get the damn thing off because the wrench wasn't grabbing onto the bolt to loosen it. They inform me that it appears the bolt head maybe starting to get stripped. They don't make the bolt anymore. You can purchase a whole new set through Ecklers etc, but I'm looking at 160.00 for 4 new bolts and a matching wrench. I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem. I will bite the bullet if I have to and buy a set, but I will probably replace the wheels someday although not in the near future. Any ideas? Thanks

We bought centercap bolts for the Beretta Indy and they sure didn't cost that much. They are McGards, but can't remember where I bought them right now, will try to find out.

I had this problem on the forum last year. post a WTB thread on the for sale section. I was able to get a set of four with the wrench for $75.00. Give it a shot what do you have to lose? What Ecklers wants is

I just noticed razor89 just sold a set of 4 caps with locks and keys for $100. Man you just missed that one. Good luck

I have an 88 with those wheels. For what it's worth, the previous owner had narled up the heads on the center cap retaining bolts so badly, that I just replaced them with stainless socket head cap bolts with the same thread. They acutally fit perfect and look fine. I'm not worried about theft with those wheels anyway....

I was thinking something along those lines and would be perfectly happy doing that. Where did you get them?

Any information would be great. I will search McGards and see what I come up with. Thanks.

Try Ace Hardware. The store we have here in town has a huge selection of automotive bolts etc. Good luck

Contact Mcgard

http://www.mcgard.com

Talk to customer service and tell them you have a Corvette with locks manufactured by them for GM and GM has told you they no longer support that product.

You can e-mail or fax them a picture of the puzzle lock and they should beable to send a repacement bolt for a fee.
