I'm putting a few bucks in this car, so wheels are going to have to wait. I don't really like the stock wheels, but they are what I have. I'll replace these wheels next year I think. Here's the problem, I want the car to look as good as it can, and those stock wheels are tired. A ton of brake dust, I got a lot off but there's still stubborn corners. The pie tin part is scuffed and just not very shiny.
Any suggestions on how to fix these things up without dropping a bunch of cash, or spending lots of hours on them.
I think you will have to choose to either spend money or time on them. I visited with an '86 with polished wheels. The weren't like mirror polished, but they were polished. I was thinking it would be too bling, but it was not bad at all.
What about just steel wool? Make 'em some kind of a brushed looking finish? That might be cool. Put the car on a jack and spin the wheel to make a nice circle stroke to the brushed area.
Sounds like you want to have your cake & eat it too.......Heres what I did on my 89 wheels. They were fairly scuffed up & dull. I imagine yours also have a clear coat like mine did. Just strip the clear coat off. I used a product called Auto Strip, in an orange & black can from Checker/Kragen. Follow the directions & use gloves. I used brass wier brushes for the small crevices & Scotchbrite pads with some steel wool (#000). It takes effort & time...but it works. They will require more "maintainence" ie: more polishing than a clearcoated wheel, but they look great & have a good sheen. good luck!

Yes, bottom line is, I do. Eventually I'm going to replace the wheels. If I had 89 wheels, I'd spend the money or time. 17" sawblades are very nice. The 87 wheels are "turbines"? Just not my cup of tea, but if they are shined up they can look pretty good.

That's a good idea, I wonder if anyone else has tried that on early C4 wheels?
You could paint them black, would probably look like **** but it would be easy If you like the sawblades you can buy those pretty damned cheap. I sold a set with 26K miles on them in perfect shape for
$200.00 I hate those wheels. Just another thought.
With an '87 you should see this symble. They are made by Enkei.
You can strip the clear coat and polish them to a shine like this.
