Caugh, Sputter, ROAR!!!!!
I have stock 1984
If I sit at a red light for a bit, When I start to let the clutch go if the RPMs drop the motor coughs, spits, sputters and then off it goes as if there was never a problem. Shift into 2nd and it runs fine even though I sometimes short shift and hit those same low RPMs. Same thing throughout all the gears from there on up.
If I am thinking about it I'll rev the motor a couple of times prior to the Light changing and then let the clutch out and it runs fine.
I was thinking fuel delivery problem but others (CentralCoaster) posted other symptoms would lead to the fuel pump.
So, to sum it up, sitting at red light/idling let the RPMs drop and it coughs.
Can you guys give me some suggestions?
*edit*
I hate how you can't edit the title........"Cough"

Open your hood at night at take a close look. You might have electrical arcing (engine misfire) going on.
It gets hotter'n hell under that clamshell hood and Corvette plug wires take a beating.
Started digging into it a bit further once I saw nobody posted an obvious.
The Plug wire on the passenger side was burned. They are three months old and it was burned inside the boot. White Chalky stuff all inside and the boot itself cracked when I was examining it. The White Chalky stuff was even forming between the Shielding and the Rubber Hood Gasket above the Distributor. So this thing has been arcing under there for some time.
The Good is that I took it back to Kragen and they upgraded me to the Borg Warner 8.5 Wires under warranty. These wires had a two year warranty but the better ones have a lifetime warranty.
onedef92 and Kragen did me right.

(and it is the type of question that gets you beat up after school for asking it)
There is no Coil under there. There is no coil wire. I can't find it, am I missing something?
I like to think I'm pretty handy, but I have looked numerous extensive times. I can't find it.
