Default Any differences between 94, 95 and 96

Hi all this is my first post on this forum so please bare with me. I have been looking for a corvette for about a year now. I have been forcusing on 95 and 96 vettes mainly because of the vented optispark. I have just found a 94 Admiral Blue with 46k on it. This is the color that I have really would like to have. My question is what are the differences between the th 94's, 95's and 96's other than the vented opti.

Thanks

94 and 95 are OBD I and 96 is OBD II.

Don't get fixiated on the opti, it's been GROSSLY overstated as a problem! (engine washes and water pumps do 95% of the damage, vented or not). Each year was a little more refined, but not enough difference to make a difference!

I knew that. The 94 and 95 are still reprogrammable unlike the 93's. Plus you can use a jumper on the 94 and 95 and error codes will display on the dash. where as the 96's you need scanning software for the codes.

anything else electrical or mechanical?

Mechanically, the 95-96 have J55 13" brakes standard, 94 doesn't (only optionally with Z07). Depends on how you would use the car whether that matters to you.

It costs several hundred to upgrade the brakes in one of various ways.

Plus, by the time 13 years and 46,000 miles have slipped by, the Opti has either been replaced or proven that it won't need to be.

The last three years were pretty much the same car. A few changes to eliminate rattles and squeaks were instituted in '95 and '96 but they don't affect durability or performance.

This isn't what your asking but i'd be hard pressed to pass up an admiral. It's one of the best looking colors on a C4 in my opinion. Plus being a 94 you still have the newer dash, seats, etc..

According to the Corvette Black Book, the difference between going from the 1995 to 1996 models are

1) The 1996 On Board Diagnostic were more sophisticated and complex. The number of diagnostic codes increasing from 60 to 140.

2) LT1 motors in 1996 with the auotmatic transmission had improved friction materials for the intermediate clutch and front/rear bands , improved shift quality and more durable torque converters.

3) The Z51 handling package in 1996 returned with with stiffer springs and thicker stabilizer bars.

4) LT1 and LT4 had new a throttle body for 1996.

5) RPO F45 handling package was priced the same as 1995, however it was quite different. It could alter each differnetly and every 10-15 milliseconds.

The biggies have been mentioned, J55 becoming standard in 95 and the rattle controls (velcro in key areas), and the external difference of the "gills" behind the front tire changed from 94 to 95. AB is quite a stunning color.

Thanks for all of the info that everyone provided. I just now found another car in the area. It is also a 94 but is black w/black interior. it has 27000 miles on it and the owner is asking for a grand more than the blue. I guess it is time to hit the pavement and take some test drives. If all goes well maybe I will get lucky and have a car buy Bloomington Gold which is just down the street from me. I was going to go if I had a car or not but it will be alot more fun to have a vette there.

You already know the most Important difference between 94 and 95 is the VENTED opti. The minor/big differences are the sound/squeek abatement measures, and as already stated standard J55s on the 95.
Seat stitching was improved, new gill vent design,

The corner of the front bumper by the cornering/driving lights is body color in '96.

You should hold out for any ZR-1 or a good 96 with an LT-4

I wish i could afford a zr1 but it is just not in the cards. The LT4 would also be nice but I have not been able to find one that matches my search criteria in the last year I have been looking.
