I'm getting around 16-18mpg with the a/c on and with it off its back up to 22-24. She also feels like she's going to die at the light and now mixed in hard cranking with the a/c on. After two year's of ownership, it's my 2nd week with air so it could be worse. There’s no SES light just curious with the a/c being Pac Man.

If the AC is causing the car to almost die at a light then I would be looking at the compressor. Sounds like it is binding a bit and causing the car to have to work harder to move the pulley.

Is this generally around town (stop and go) or a mixture of on the freeway too? As stated aready the compressor maybe causing a strain as the car almost dies maybe a tune as the idle is off as well?
I get 30 mpg on the freeway with the air on (according to the dash) and average with air running, part city, part freeway is 22 mpg.
check your compressor pressures to make sure the system is not over serviced. that could assist in compressor resistance.
maybe it's time to have the system evacuated, maybe you are making ice in the A/C system, and your freon has ice crystals and is making snow cones inside the hoses.

Yes, around town. Every thing is fine going down the hwy it's only when stopping that the car starts shuddering. Now I did say that I was without a/c for two year's but it's really around 6 months ever since the shop guy installed a new a/c compressor clutch. He never put the freon back in because my blower motor wouldn't kick on. So in other words, the compressor was off completely for 6 months. I'll go check it out and the IAC too. Thanks

Any chance that there's been too much refrigerant installed? This makes a compressor work harder and is also not good for it. If in doubt, have your pressures checked and compare them for the ambient temperature at that time. Even in town your mileage penalty should not be so severe.
