I've read the tech articles on cleaning the IAC-is it okay to spray the IAC (under the spring area) directly with the cleaner, or do you have to stick with spraying the shop towel and just wiping off the IAC. I don't want to screw it up.
Pulled mine today for the first time on an '84 with 91K.
I pulled my IAC off when I was replacing the TB gaskets as a whole with the IAC. The I just got carb cleaner and sprayed it in there and let it soak. Then I used a rag and wiped it clean. No harm done. You can buy the gasket kit from any parts store for like $15.

Cleaning them is easy and makes a difference for sure.
