Holy lugnut torque specs!!!
Ok, I always torque my lugnuts to 100 ft/lb religiously. In fact I do it in three stages.... 50, then 75, then 100.
I just happened to be thumbing through a spare '87 owners manual and just saw that it is 80 ft/lb.
Crappola!!!
What does everyone else do?

I tighten 'em till they feel tight enough, using a 4 axis (x shaped) all purpose lug wrench. I do tighten in stages crossing the centercap.

When they feel tight enough, one quarter turn past that.

I could swear that it said 100 in the manuals for both the 86 and 96...

If your owners manual or GM shop manual says 80 then go with it.
better safe than sorry.

What does the Helms say?
My guess is that it says 100. You can probably get away with 90-95 though. :)

Run 'em on with the impact in a cross pattern until they just pull the wheel against the rotor then torque in a cross pattern to 100 ftlbs. My Helms and Chiltons both say 100.

Torgue to 75 lbs on mine. My tire guy has had customers break the studs when over tight and they hit a pot hole (thats what we call a lack of maintenance to the street down south)

Well, I just purchased new ZR1 rims and the spec is 75 - 85 ft lbs. I do mine to 85 ft lbs. A service manual I have states the same thing.
