I am just curious, do you use the hatch vent if the car has the top on?
I remember the stories of the station wagons that had the rear windows that rolled down.
They said that it was dangerous because the exhaust fumes were being sucked into the car
when you drove down the road. they stopped making the windows roll down, course that
means i can't hang wood (or christmas trees, grew up with a neighbor who always did this)out the rear either. got to strap it on top.
Sorry, just a dumb question
Yes, I started using one this year and immediately smelled raw gas fumes. This actually helped draw my attention to a serious tank venting problem the I was unaware of. I suppose it could pose a health / safety issue but you really should always drive with one window open a bit to keep fresh air circulating anyway. You would be in the same situation if the exhaust system developed a leak, the fumes could come in around the door seals etc, so keeping a window cracked open a bit solves both problems. You could also keep your blower on Medium speed too.
The fumes behind the old stationwagon, circulate in the turbulence behind the car, that includes the rear window area. The hatch vent on the 'vette opens the hatch in front of the rear area, so the exhaust that would get in the car is negligible.
I have smelled exhaust in my car when backing up with the hatch vent in, but never moving forward.
I have a free flow exhaust and at idle, like the rest of you can smell a little...but never when driving. It's nice to hear the exhaust note especially at WOT! :eek:That always makes me smile. :D
I use the vent A LOT with the top on and windows rolled down. Never noticed anything except a great exhaust sound. Must admit I don't use it with the windows rolled up and top on (or just avoid it whenever I can) since I owned a station wagon when I was young and know exactly what you are talking about here. On the few occassions when I was forced to roll the windows up (it got too cold in the forest) I did not smell any exhaust but I don't like doing it. Colorless and odorless you know. I won't take the chance.

I use mine with the top on and have had no problems at all. I don't smell any thing and get a nice breeze coming in from behind. I like it a lot. I wish Chevy made it a factory option the have the hatch stay open an inch and a half.

You're riding in a car with a fiberglass body that will shatter and split upon impact, you have no air bag, your head is the same height as the bumper on a 4WD SUV or pick-up, and your steering a car that begs to live life on the edge & you're concerned about the 'safety' of leaving your hatch open a couple inches? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sorry, couldn't resist. :D
Never noticed any problems with my hatch vent. Instead, it increases air flow through the cabin (when moving of course) & reduces turbulance.

A: I just checked my page and it seems that the links to other pages are working. Since they did this switchover thing my links open up the new page and keep the original page open also. I like it better if it leaves the first page and goes to the others but I don't know how to fix that yet. I'm not too good with this computer stuff. I like your web site tho. I just did that dash kit from Ecklers that replaces the big pad with a nice flat panel with a pouch for junk. It makes the dash look MUCH better. I wish it didn't cost $75 bucks tho.
