Oh well, I bought one anyways.
READ your history - those frame rails WOULD NOT have been that high if they had been allowed to stick to the original design for the C4. Originally the C4 was suppose to have two T-tops exactly like the C3 with the center support connected to the windshield like the C3 for stability. I think it was the president of Chevy at the time made the following statement "I do not want another two panel T-Top on Corvettes". Or something to this affect. Anyhow they had to redesign the C4 Coupe with no extra funding - hence the Four dumb screws instead of clamp locks like the C3 and the extra high side rails which reinforce the car with the top off and limit body flex and twist (though I have to say of all the Vettes the C4 is the worst for body flex and twist). I can't imagine why they never improved the removal technology of the top over the 12 year period but there you have it. They finally got the one panel removal right on the C5 - two scissor clamps and a rear leaver clamp hold the much lighter C5 single panel top on.

Since we are looking for problems, I'll add to the list the fuel gauge, especially the DTE calculator.

Left the wife and me stranded in the desert here one afternoon. Now I never let it go below 1/4 tank, and assume that 50 miles 'DTE' is really 'E' and plan accordingly.

Excuse GM for not filling the cargo compartment with a huge A** subwoofer, that most of the "YOUNGER" generation seems to equate to a quality system. As far as I am conerned a subwoofer equates to a sub-sonic socket wrench - all the bolts and the screws in your car eventually back themselves out due to the constant vibration - not to mention you eventually end up "tone deaf". I find no difference in the quality of the Bose as compared to a Sony, JVC or most aftermarket systems.

Oh and the guy asked about the "amps" they are built into each speaker - the two at the kick panels and the two in the rear of the car.

I'll add one that hasn't been mentioned ..... the big fat clunky steering wheel. You can tilt it but you can't telescope it like you can on the C3 and C5. I assume it had something to do with the air bag technology at the time??? Either that or funding issues again.

I don't have the bose system in mine I have the base model GM stereo, however, I think the issue isn't as much the sound quantity as it is the build quality of the bose units. A lot of people have problems with theirs and repairing/replacing it isn't a simple plug in unplug option. If it were you'd probably hear a lot less complaints. The reality is, if yours goes bad, you either have to pay a huge premium to have it repaired for an outdated receiver/speaker combination or strip it all out and start over again.

Mine telescopes but then again, I drive an '85 that doesn't have your fancy "air bags" or "anti lock brakes" or "general safety features"

Well then, you do realize that no one has mentioned the location of the ECM in the last three years. I got my head and shoulders stuck in the floor well not too long ago.

What is wrong with the spare tire location? It is real easy to get to and is hidden from view. Would you much rather have it inside the hatch?

I have the new designed hooks and they work amazing!!! This was the first thing I got for the Vette... Before them I could never use the cargo cover!
