Default Do these matter much?

My 86 doesn't have the tins around the exhaust manifolds. I got a nice set at Carlisle but haven't put them on yet.
Do these do much and should I be concerned if I don't get to them for a while?
The manifolds are stock as well as the engine and all else.
Thanks

Mine rattle around and cut me every time I try to work on the car. Make sure your wiring is protected nearby, and junk them!

Yes, the heat shields, they're made out of tin. Do they protect wiring and whatever else might touch them or do they serve another purpose?

The main reason for these heat shields was to protect the plug wires from the exhaust heat.

I removed mine when I installed AFR heads. With them on I couldn't get the plugs in the heads, just too tight to get a wrench on the plugs. Without them, changing plugs is fine. I have had no problem with burned wires in the two years they have been off. But I also use GOOD wires

I believe the shields are necessary to protect other things than plug wires. they keep the radiant heat from destroying everything around them.
ok, my 86 still has them on, and I put 86 corvette stock exhaust manifolds on my 57 chevy pickup without the heat shields. The wires do just fine in the truck, but there's nothing around them to suffer. THe stock 86 exhausts are similar to the original rams horn exhaust that came on the truck, so no problem. but un like the truck, the corvette that has heater hoses near the right side, an alternator with heat sensitive diode board, air conditioning hoses and lines that pass by the exhaust, plastic fenderwells, and rubber hood seals.
I left the shields on in my car, but removed them from the truck.
the truck has an all metal body, the corvette............welll
