Default 84 a/c problem

My 84 control unit is stuck on one mode. When I slide to max, normal, heater, defrost, it blows from all of them, at once. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

My 85 did the same thing when I got it. I found that the main vacuum line that goes from the engine to the AC/Heat control unit in the dash was not connected/broken. Apparently this is the default *stupid* mode.

The line is hard plastic, starts on the passenger side of the intake and goes into the wiring harness onto its way to the interior. Instead of trying to deal with all of that, I just just drilled a little hole in the firewall and ran a new line. I checked this to be sure, beforehand, by running a long vaccum line from the engine in through the open door to the control head to be sure that would fix the problem, and when it did, I just popped the new line in like I described above.

I think you will go down a very similar path. While it could be the control head itself, I doubt it. Pop the control head out. Check for vacuum on the main line from the engine...its the black one thats seperate from all the rest of them. No vacuum? You know what to do...
