Default Which is worth more?

Saw a car at a local dealer, so I'm daydreaming, which is worth more:

87 A4, 73k miles. New AC, and catback. History is known only for last 4 months. Interior good, exterior above average. Everything works.

93 A4 117k miles. History unknown, at a "Corvette dealer". Everything works.

The 93, probably about $10K. It is 6 years younger.

And the 87, $8k?

In your view, the 44k miles isn't a big factor? Just curious about details of your opinion, I'm not challenging you.

I'm annoyed with the 87. It's getting fixed yet again. I think if I could swap even up, I would. So, I'm asking for unbiased opinions.

The miles wouldn't bother me if the car has been maintained and taken care of. I don't think you'll get an even trade, especially from a dealer...always out to make a buck.

I'd rather have the 93 over the 87...newer car, newer technology, more horsepower, better looks IMO.

Good luck with the decision!

The 93 should be worth more $$ It is alot more car in my opinion. If you want to get some seat time in a 93 let me know. I have a couple of things done to mine but nothing you couldn't duplicate. I would highly recommend gears and a higher stall.

No problem. I don't consider mileage as a huge factor. The later the year in the C4s the better the technology, better value, and of course the LT1. I am not dissing the 87, nor the L98, they are fine vettes with a lot of positives. Just the general rule with any vehicle is the later year models are better (bugs have been engineered out) and carry a better resale. As far as mileage I have over 197,000 on mine now and it is both original and running strong, just the routine stuff that gets fixed when it breaks (or when I am bored and 'play' with it). I'd go with the "93" but I'm partial.

Sell your 87 and buy a LTX with similar miles. You can't take the money with ya

i agree with wayne. the LT1 has more horses, a flatter torque curve over a higher rpm range. if you're a stock guy like i think you are, and are plain afraid to mod, then just get the stock LT1 and be done with it. you'll find yourself craving to mod the L98 which has a helluva alot of ground it needs to make up for, not to mention the first 50 extra horses just to get to the LT1 minimum, and its gonna cost.

I just sold my 93 with 83k on the clock for $10k. Most of the owner history of mine was known, it was in excellent shape, definitely above average. Hopefully that will serve as a guideline at least for the 93. I'd recommend buying from a private party, especially a forum member, where you can meet the owner and discuss the car with him or her. And you will likely get a better price.

This is kind of a daydream, like I said.
First off, I'd have a heck of a time selling a car I just bought and not having the wife go bonkers.
Second, I'm in pretty deep on this car. Bought it for $7k, overpaid a little. But now I have $9.5k in it.
The dealer where the 93 is, has an 87 with 22k miles on it, he's asking $15k for that. So, I just was figuring, if I could get anywhere close to an even up, it might be worth it.
If not, I'll keep the 87 for a year or two. Maybe I can keep it on the road for more than a week or two straight.

So you are going to sell it and buy a newer one

That is so evil it's good!
But I'm a lousy liar. I'd be better off telling her the truth and taking my lumps. (If I was better at lying to her, your suggestion would work!)

That takes this thread a whole different direction.
I'll just say it's a good thing that marriage licenses don't expire. Many would not be renewed.

It is easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.
