I have a 84 Z51 and love it. Never really had a problem with it except for a bad sending unit in the fuel tank. If your looking for more power the cross fire can be replaced or upgraded. Enjoy your new car

Default The 84 C4

I have an 84 C4 Z51, and the ride is a bit rough, mine improved a great deal when I bought new tires. The car handles like it is on railroad tracks and is a true pleasure. Have not had a bit of trouble with the crossfire injection and it is easier to work on for me anyway.

I say go for it!

I have a 84 non-z-51 manual and a 84 z-51 auto. The z-51 is a noticibly stiffer ride than the non-z-51.

I dont think it is too rough of a ride and I drive the Z-51 fairly often and I also let my Dad drive it and he is in his 60's. He would not want to take it on a road trip for a few hundred miles because of the ride, but does drive it around town without a problem.

I am a bit younger so the stiff ride does notbother me, in fact I like it alot. It really handles well and I dont get a sore back or anything.

I would say go for it

Also as for problems, I would say I have had what I would consider minimal problems for that old of a car.

I have had my non-Z-51 manual for 9 years. I have replaced the 4+3 trans with a 6 speed as they are known for going bad, replaced the rack and pinion due to a hard spot turning to the right and since I was replacing that I replaced the pump and lines also. 1 starter and 1 altenator. And I replaced the shocks with new Bilsteins. It now needs the rear end rebuilt due to a leak on the drivers side output shaft. The car had 55K miles on it when I bought it and now has 117k on it. It still runs great and I drive that car daily during the summer rain or shine. I am from the Milwaukee area and have driven it to Bowling Green twice, Effingham 9 times, Detroit 3 times and Wisonsin Dells 9 times without a problem and will continue to drive it on road trips.

The z-51 car I have had for 3 years and put about 10k miles on it, now has 90k on it, I I have replaced the rack and pinion unit due to a major leak and again replaced the lines and pump while I was at it. That is the only problem I have had with it. It appears that the previous owner put new ball joints in it but Im not sure if it needed it as my other car still has the originals along with all the original suspension components.
