Took my car to a body joint to have them look at the pealing gloss coat prob and left the keys in the car with the door open. 1/2 hr later when I went to start the car...Noting. Radio, dash, lights, normal. pulled the key out, shut the door, and tried again 20 minutes later and she started right up. Security (VATS)? did this do that?
Had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Everything lights up but when go to "start" nothing, not even a clicking or attempt of starter engaging. Thought exact same thing, "VATS". My mechanic checked certain things (in for new tires anway) and said my battery was low (said an interior light was left on, maybe from getting out). Charged battery and thankful haven't had the problem again.
New Batt. last year. Never had a problem with this fine ride. Today.. I just ordered my Helms today cause I freaked. Didn't know where to begin. Is VATS info in the Owners manual? You Know,.. Lights, Triggers, and Conditions? How about reset information?
It could be VATS. The contacts in the ign lock eventually don't make reliable connection to the pellet in your ign key and the ECM won't allow a start attempt for 6 minutes when it first detects that the pellet is not the correct resistance. Use the search function for VATS and you will find my dissertation of testing for VATS over 300 times. I recommend that you repair your VATS problem and not bypass it because 99% of thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ignition.
Just incase if anyones intrested, it was the VATS. With key in the ignition, security light flashes, then with KOEO the VATS securtiy light goes out thru KOER. With my experience this morning security light was on solid KOEO thru KOES position.
