Want your input........
I have a warranty for my transmission that was put in a year ago to this day. The warranty calls for me to have transmission service done every 12k miles or 12 months whichever comes first......anyway, it states that it needs to be done there at the shop yet it isn't covered according to the guy and I see nowhere that states it should or shouldn't be covered on the papers. He said it's about 65 bucks for the service. Even if it isn't, somethin sounds pretty f*** up that I have to have it done there or "lose the next 2 years of my warranty". The money's really not the big issue, somethin just seems off. Just wondering your input if anyone's had to deal with this or somethin similar before. Is this normal?
If I built a tranny for somebody, I would want to be the one to service it as well...if I was supplying a warranty with it. This is actually good for you, when you think about it. If this shop is the only one that does the work then when something does go wrong you don't have to wonder which place, that you took it to, made the mistake that lead to the break. Also, who knows that tranny better than the people who built it for you?

They just don't want to have to pay for someone elses mistakes. Not unreasonable, nor is the price. If your tranny works well they obviously know what they are doing. Why have anyone else do it?
Warranty service is normally at the customers expense, even for a new vehicle. Get the service done, it's cheap insurance and doesn't sound like they're trying to rip you off to me.
The shop is the one backing the warranty and they wrote the rules. A contract is a contract. You can either pay and play or don't and gamble. I'd pay the $65.00 just for piece of mind and extending my coverage for another year. How far is the shop from the house?

Thanks all. That cleared up alot, seems you're all in agreement that its the norm. It's far, but not unreasonably far from home. For flyinlow, they gave me 3 years/36,000 miles when most places I shopped around for only gave one. Well, I don't feel like gamblin today so I'm off to get the service done. Like someone up here said......it's cheap insurance.
I agree it's probably BS, it shouldn't need service in a year, or two. Alot of places insist that you bring it back within the first 2000mi. to check on it (no charge), to make sure everything is okay. But that is the agreement you made, so you have to play by those rules. By the way, did they say exactly WHAT the service intails? If it's filter and fluid change, that's a pretty reasonable price. (filter $12 + 7 qts fluid @$2.50qt).

Cough up teh cash and have peace of mind or roll teh dice!
Most small shops only guarantee them for 90 days or 3000 miles. The reason is that if workmanship is wrong, it usually rears it's head quickly.
@$65, the service is a bargain. I suggest paying up.
I get my trans done every 20k. Its $90.00
The manual calls for every 20k so I do it. If I don't my extended warranty wont pay up without service records.
The guy at the trans shop said if you keep clean it will last a long time.
I've never had a auto trans fail.
I bought a car with a bad trans though, fixed and sold it.
