I'm going to replace the tires on my new 89 in the near future. Probably going with Goodyear run flats. It seems most people buy from places like Tire Rack. This may sound stupid but how do you get the tires to the tire shop or do you just order them through your local shop? Also, can a regular tire shop be trusted to install tires on a vette? Any unusual balancing or allignment problems I should be prepared for?
1. Get your price from Tire Rack and make sure you know the total price including shipping to your residence/business.
2. Locate a "specialty" tire shop who has tire removal equipment that does not touch/damage the face of the wheel. Go and get a price from them on the same tires. You may be able to get the same deal from the tire dealer by telling him......Tire Rack is selling for......price.
I have done this before and was successful. Be careful of selecting the tire company due to their equipment. Standard tire changing equipment will damage your Corvette rims
We have a chain of tire stores here in Northern Ca. called Big O Tires. Do you have that chain back there in Missouri ? I was born in St. Jo. by the way. Thanks for the advice. Any national chain tire stores you can recommend?
I would tend to avoid the national chain stores as their tire changing equipment may cause damage to your wheels. Been therd and done it
Look for a speciality wheel business who also sells tires. I use Wheel Image in St. Louis for my Corvette wheel issues. This is an indepdent tire business with special equipment.

Some Big O stores will try to make you pay double for mounting and balancing if you have your tires ordered from the Tire Rack.
That's because they don't get a chance to make a profit on the tires themselves, so they try to get the $ from you anyway.
I would recommend the Tire Rack, but call the tire store in advance to get a quote on mounting and balancing before you place your Tire Rack order. Then have the tires drop shipped to the store. The Tire Rack has a list of certified installers in the Bay Area.
I have had tires drop shipped directly to my tire guy from Tire Rack and Tires . com (discount tire)...I have also had tires shipped to my home and brought them to my tire guy for mounting...the key is to have a good local tire guy who will work with ya...

Tire Rack lists approved shops on their web site so you should check them out before ordering. Also, don't forget that Tire Rack's prices do not include mounting, balanceing or disposal of the old tires so you have to factor these costs into their price.
