Default 96 two piece top

The targa top on my 96 coupe is a real pain for one person to take off. I really like to have the top off, but find mysel talking myself out of it becasue it's just such a pain to work with. I thought I read somewhere that there is a two piece top available similar to the c3 T-Tops. I checked on flea bay but didn't see anything and looked in a few vette books (ecklers/mid america but didn't see anything), anyone know if and where there is such a creature??? How much $$$$Thanks

Whenever you see the term 2 piece top, they are usually referring to the fact the car came with both tops (painted and acrylic).

I am not aware of any "2-piece" top for any C4.

Its not the size or weight thats the problem, its the fact that its got 4 screws you have to loosen cause I find it a pain too. It'd be cool if they could come with one that works like the C5 top.

I think having a two piece top would be great to have. I love being able to take the roof off, but I hate that the car isn't as rigid when the roof isn't there. I've thought about buying one of the Targa Trusses, but dislike the idea of having to install it everytime I remove my roof. I think a two piece top with a built in Targa Truss would be great to have....be able to remove the top and still have support.

Wow, now it's starting to sound like a bra advertisement.

Bah... the whole point of a targa top is that it is ALL open, it's almost like being in a convertable. Yeah it's 4 screws, but comon - we can all use the exercise!

Lately the only time the top is on my car is when I wash it. Otherwise I just leave it off the whole time . It's stored in my garage of course when I'm not driving. Must admit though a convertible would sometimes be quicker and easier. I use to have a trans am with T-tops, they were easier to get off but kinda more of a pain in the **** to store with having to slide them in their protective bag and everything versus just snapping the targa into its holders.

Me too, but they don't. Do a search and you'll find several suggestions regarding an electric top removal tool.

All you need is the proper torx bit and a small handheld battery powered drill. Drill fits right in the glove box and makes taking it on and off a piece of cake

I'm in the same boat. Really enjoy having the top off but removing the four (4) bolts can be a pain. Then I always wonder if I am overtightening.

I was hoping someone would come up with a quick release mechanism but no luck. Looked at the power tool and was worried about stripping the bolts.

There's a reason it's bolted on. It really is a structural part of the car. I would imagine a quick-release system would not be as solid.

If it takes you more than a minute to undo 4 bolts, there may be some other issue.

Uh, with that silly little mattel tool GM so kindly included It takes several minutes to unscrew all 4 bolts and remove the top. A little contortionism doesnt hurt either.
