I got some paint transfer from the side of my garage door opening due do the fact I have to make a sharp turn to clear my 300M parked in the driveway. At first I sanded some of it off but it left scratches so I used rubbing compound that got rid of the scratches but left a dull finish. Would there be any problems just going over this with a little bit of clear coat to bring back the shine?
That or get some polish/buffing compound and hit the area. You might want to try some 1500-2000 grit on the area before you hit it with the polish. (this is wwhat the body shop will do). Just don't try to do it all at once, be gentile and it should come out great.
No, don't put clear coat on it. You'll only be masking a paint defect unless you sanded too deep. You can bring the finish back, as others said, by buffing out the spot you sanded. You might be able to get rid of the haze by hand polishing with a good polish, but a buffer will work much better. I wouldn't sand it again unless you initially used a coarser grit paper (1500 or less).
If you ever have that problem again, don't sand. Try a clay bar and the paint should come right off (the garage door paint).

Reason: bad speler
With all that sanding talk, make sure you are WET sanding,,, no dry... get some 3M polish and polish it out after wet sanding... any good paint/body supply store will have what you need.
