Default targa weight

Are the blue tinted see thru targa tops any lighter than the body colored fiberglass top that came with my 89 coupe? Took the top off for the first time yesterday (just got the car yesterday!) and it seemed heavier than I had imagined it would be. I'm not a 90 lb. weakling or anything but I do have a bad back and unless there is another technique to removing and storing the top (i.e. leaning over the drivers side and lifting it up before carrying it around back and bending over to store it) I may not be removing it as often as I would like.

Thanks, Kim

I take mine off by sitting in the drivers seat, then I step out of the car holding the top from each end. Sounds a little easier than what you're doing.

But anyway it's probably not the weight of the top that is making it difficult to, it's your bad back. I'd say you'd be better just asking help from somebody. Bad back are nothing to mess with.

Were you live can't you leave it off for most of the year?

Mine usually comes off in the Spring and pretty much stays off until Fall. The only time it gets put back on is when I'm at the drag strip, not allowed to run with the top off. I run autocross events with the top off.

I think you nailed it, I have the same issue and can't find a solution. I sit in the car and push up on it, once it is loose, I climb out and try to lift it over the drivers side, then to the back it goes. I think the design is for two but there isn't always a friend available. If you find a top that fits and is easier let us all know.

The see thru tops ARE less weight than the fiberglass tops. What I do is pop the hatch, and with the wife on one side and me on the other, we lift it off, and secure it in the rear of the car. We do this not so much for the weight issue, but to insure we dont damage the top during its removal.

Topless is good. Not bad on Vettes either

Where I live is not a good place to leave the top off unattended if I ever want to see my car again!

Thats how I do it, for lack of a better method.
You are right, it is heavy and very awkward.

They make a pulley system to put in your garage for removing the top, but its limited to your garage.

The fiberglass top is exactly 6 lbs more than the accrylic one.... I weighed them both and the the tinted accrylic weighed in at a stout 20 lbs and the fiberglass weighed in at 26 lbs.... Its not that they are heavy its that they are awkwardly shaped

Wow! I wasn't thinking along those lines. I was thinking just about the weather.

The areas that I drive the Vette are fine to leave it parked and locked. I'm usually close enough to hear the alarm if someone decides to bother it.

Hernia.

Or, herniated disk.

I do mine alone, because I'm a MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Stand on drivers side, Lift that puppy up, maneuver (sp) to the rear,
and plop that bugger (as well as my back) into the storage slot.

And I've suffered both ailments above to prove it.
