Default Closing Hatch

When I close my hatch and when I get to about a foot before it closes it's hard to close. It takes two hands to close it. It opens with no problem.
Is this normal???

Assuming the doors and windows are closed and the top is on. When you try to slam the rear hatch closed when it's about a foot from being closed, air is being pushed/compressed into the cars interior.

To see if you have a problem, try closing the hatch when one of the doors is open. If the hatch closes easily, I'd say you don't have a problem. Some resistance does come from the two shocks that hold the hatch in the open position.

With the hatch resting on the rear weatherstripping you should be able to close the hatch by pushing down on the glass with some resistance.

If you can't close the hatch easily you can try adjusting the latch/solenoid assembly.

It's also possible the hatch is hard to close because you have aftermarket rear hatch weatherstripping. The factory weatherstripping is an open cell type rubber and compresses easily.

I usually close my hatch by bringing it down to about 3" from closed, then put the heel of my hand between the two bolts that hold the latch to the glass and slam it down. Never had a problem.

Thank you!
I did try this with the doors open and it was the same. I do know the weatherstripping was replased before I got the car so this may be why it hard to close.

My hatch used to be easy to close, but after I added my rear weatherstriping its really hard to close. I also have to use two hands to close it. Hope this helps. Zak.
