I bought an x brace from a 1992 convertible to put on my coupe to help with cowl shake. I wanted to make it look better and paint it. What should i use to sand it and what type of paint shold I use? black rustoleum? no experience in this area. thanks for any input.
Black rustoleum will work fine. You can sand the frame with something like 220grit wet paper, followed by 400 grit and then use an automotive primer paint (Rustoleum has one). Then a couple coats of Rustoleum in flat black.
One thing about installing the X-brace in a coupe; the coupes do not have the bolt holes in the rear corners of the frame. You will have to drill holes and use nutserts. The 'vert body pan also had three studs installed which were located pretty much under the seats. These studs matched up to holes in the back portions of the X-brace. These studs helped keep the brace from flexing.
Also the 'verts ride height was about an inch higher than the coupes as the X-brace sticks down about an inch when installed.

thanks for the info, all of the other holes are there except the rear corners? Are the studs under the seats required?
