Default Sun reflector

I have a '95 with a black leather interior, that gets wicked hot when it's parked in the summer sun. I've been trying to find a sun reflector that would work with the glass roof panel and the back hatch but, haven't had any luck. Does anyone make such items?

Thanks, Grinder

Yes, I will take a picture tomorrow. It's an insulated top cover that's white on the outside and covers the entire top. You can crack the windows with it on and the inside stays about 30* cooler. I bought it from MAM or Ecklers or similar for less than $100.

Madvettes got a static cling film that sticks to the inside of the targa top, removeable too. Just seen it on the web site. It costs about 40 bucks if i remember.

This is the only real solution.I've had these on eight C4s with glass tops and they WORK! Don't waste $40-$50 for the static cling junk that provides little cooling value...IF you can even get them to stick in place.

I use two shades that are of this type (bought mine at Costco a couple of years ago, and they have nothing written on them):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Winds...32243187QQrdZ1

I use one to shade the driver's door window and the driver's side of the windshield, and the other to shade the passenger's side door glass and the passenger's side of the windshield. In my LT4 coupe, I pull the cargo shade forward and lay a large white bath towel over it to reflect the sun. My lexan targa panel has the static cling stuff on it from Mid-America, but I'm leaning toward buying one of the pop-in panels that they also sell (Part Number 612-743).

These measures probably don't keep the interior quite as cool as the canopy covers that others have mentioned here, but they do make a big difference in the interior temps, and I don't have to deal with a soggy canopy cover after it rains.

Be well,

SJW

I guess it all depends where you are. I'm in Ohio, and I got the static cling one with the holes in it. It was about $25 and money well spent. Makes a big difference in keeping the interior cool, at least around here. More intense sun would be a problem I guess.

I've been considering getting a panel insert that fits on the inside of the car (removeable of course) of dropping the coin and getting a solid fibreglass top to replace the acrylic one. Even with the a/c on it gets warm inside when your cruising along. The insert would be less expensive of the 2 choices.

Of course I could scrounge around the garage and get a big hunk of card board, cut it to fit, and duck tape it into place

I have one on mine, works real well. I started w/ the static cling sunshade w/ holes but that only helped a little. Now I run both plus dark tint all around and a strip across the top of the windshield. Night & day difference from when I bought the car 3 yrs ago. It was the middle of summer in Phx (HOT!) and I had no tint & only the clear top.

I was trying to fix my solid top and noticed the headliner piece was just held on with 2 small spots of glue and popped right out. I plan to recover it and just stick it up in the clear top with a few spots of velcro around the edges (well once I get a new top that is, both my tops are broken)

I like the idea of the clear top but its just murder in the heat down here. I finally duct-taped my solid top enough to be able to use it again, and I noticed a HUUGGEE temp decrease when I get leave work each day.

That sounds like what I had in mind, something that would mount on the inside. Do you know who sells them? Thanks for all the replies

[QUOTE=SJW;1561010549]..........My lexan targa panel .........../QUOTE]

From what I've been able to learn about C4s, all the transparent tops were made of acrylic plastic, i.e. "plexiglass". "Lexan" is GEs' tradename for polycarbonate plastic, a whole different and stronger material. If you're sure your top is lexan, where did you get it? If I ever have to get a clear top, I'd much rather have lexan.

One of the reasons I want an '89 is that GM had a ventilation system in them ('88-up) that pulls air into grills in the rear of the cab and dumps it out thru the rear door seam when the car is moving. I plan to design a solar cell powered fan system to pull hot air from the top of the cab and push it out thru this vent system that will work when it's buttoned-up & sitting in the sun. Since it's very unlikely I'll buy anything but a black interior (for other reasons), I figured I'd better come up with something. I remember what black vinyl interiors in the '60s felt like!!

I used the term "Lexan" in a generic sense, and probably incorrectly. My apology for any confusion it may have caused. My targa is the blue transparent panel, and I'd have to research it to learn exactly what the material is.

Yep, I remember those black vinyl interiors from the '60s very well. I think I may still have diagonal stripes on my backside from having hopped into my '65 GTO for the first time after it had been sitting in the sun with the top down all day. I never knew I could move as fast as I did coming back outta that car that day, and I never made that mistake again!

Be well,

SJW
