Working on my newly purchased '84, I'm trying to remove the old tint from the back glass. I easily scraped it off the side windows with a razor, however the rear window is another story due to the defroster. Any ideas?
That's a good website for reference...thanks. You can also use a heat gun to assist in making it go a little quicker. Other than that I've just used windex and a sharp razor blade in the past and be careful around the defroster lines.
Just use a razor to pull up a little bit of the tint then peal and use alot of denatured alcohol and alot of rags and wipe-er down untill all the residue is gone... If the tint doesnt come off in one peice try using heat (heat gun or hair drier)
When I removed the tint from my IROC, I pulled it off very, very slowly. If you yank it off, the glue will remain on the window. A warm window helps, set the car in the sun for a spell.
Hubby and I just went thru this very adventure last weekend. We purchased some "tint film remover" from the parts store. Then you take a large piece of plastic (trash bag in our case)... tape it around the perimeter of the window, leaving an opening to use the sprayer. Then spray this remover all over the window film which will be covered with the plastic, then seal it up like that for about 45 minutes. Come back and start peeling. Its not a barrel of fun but it does work. Best to do in the sun, the plastic bag both protects the car interior and helps build heat in the wet area which helps loosen the film. I'm not great at explaining things but... Good Luck!
If you go to a local window tint shop you can have the pros remove it for a nominal charge. I think they charged me $10 to remove the nasty tint from all my windows.

In retrospect, I would have more than gladly paid $10 or even more for ANYONE else to remove the tint from our 95!
go to a place where they sell camping supplies
get a gallon can of coleman white gas for their stoves
when you are ready, use plastic masking tape, about 1 inch wide, and use it to protect your interior under where you will be working.
use a razor blade to catch an edge, put the white gas in a squeeze bottle with a snorkle.
begin peeling the tint, and pull gently, lay a film of the white gas on the edge as it comes off, and it melts the glue as you pull.
each window should take 15-30 mins.
don't go too fast, and it comes off in usually one sheet.
The white gas makes a great window cleaner if theres any film glue left at all, just keep throwing away your rag, or paper towel. keep using a new surface on the rag so you don't keep putting the glue back on.
