My car was at the mechanic the other day, and they parked her outside for a few hours in the heat (35 C or so). The nitrous bottle let go and flew around the interior like a crazed cannonball...
Needless to say I have some interior parts I need to track down...
Here's the damage rundown:
1) Pass seat leather torn and gouged
2) Pass sun visor torn (ordered - Ecklers)
3) Pass side glass gouged
4) Console cover gouged (ordered - Ecklers)
5) Dash slashed
6) Interior panel on pass side of console that continues from the dash to the floor slashed
Damage could have been MUCH worse, so I suppose I should be happy...
Can anyone point me to where I can get the remaining parts?
Blowdown tube was in place on the bottle... Not sure if the pressure was too great and just yanked the brackets out of the floor. They were only held in the fibregalss floor with the rubber expandable bolts... Suppose I should have checked the mounting when I bought the car... Oh well - live and learn...
I just went to Summit and bought my blowdown tube ($21.00) because of your post. I've put it off far too long, and have thought about this very subject. Now I need to figure out the best way to route the blowdown off the bottle. I may also run a safety band strap to the roll cage for added insurance....
Once I get the car back from the tuner (BackStreet Performance), I'm going to add some more support to my brackets.
don't all nitrous bottles have a pressure relieve valve in case something like this happens ? the blow off tube only releases the nos to out side the car is this correct ?is it not basically just a tube ,or does it replace the relieve valve? i would say that bottle has a faulty relieve valve and would not reuse it.
I believe all bottles have the valve - and yes, the tube is just to direct the gasses to a safe area...
My tube was in place, and routed through the floor of the hatch area.
I believe the problem was that the bottle brackets were not mounted securely enough to the floor. So when she blew, the flow of gas through the tube was enough pressure to pull the bottle brackets out of the floor, and then the carnage began...

I'm glad it wasn't any worse. But this is just one more reason why I don't mess with this stuff. I guess I'm old school but I like my HP real and on demand. Does anyone around here still have pics of that nice C5 that burnt to the ground due to a nitrous explosion?
