Lately my throttle has been hanging up around the 1200rpm mark when ever I use smooth gradual acceleration, but doesn't stick if I am a little more aggressive with it. Should I replace the spring at the throttle or just leave it alone and use a little more force on acceleration?
First, take the throttle body off and inspect and clean it with throttle body cleaner. Take the IAC out and clean it and the bore real good. After you put the tb back on, check the TPS voltage. It should be .54v closed throttle and >4v WOT, with a smooth increase in voltage as you slowly open the throttle plates.
I have this same problem after putting a brand new bbk 52 mm throttlebody on my car it never did this with the stock TB
Not for nothing, but I've heard a lot of negative comments about the BBK. I guess it's possible that you got a defective one out of the box, but that's not very likely. If you put your old one back on and the problem disappears, you have your answer.

4 bolts in front, vacuum line below and on passenger side, IAC and TPS plugs on passenger side, pcv hose on passenger side, and two coolant ports. You will lose some coolant during removal. I recommend rerouting those coolant hoses and connecting them together, bypassing the TB altogether. This will make your TB removal a 5 minute job in the future, and won't cause any ill effects.
Use TB cleaner on the throttle body, it's less aggressive than brake cleaner, the oem TBs have a coating inside that the brake cleaner would remove.
Clean inside the bores, particularly around the throttle shaft and edges of the blades. Also remove the IAC idle air controller and clean the pintle and bore with Q tips.
Plan on needing a throttle body gasket and IAC gasket. These are usually reusuable, but the one on your car is probably ancient. There are two types of TB gaskets, make sure you use the correct one.
