From: Sacramento, CA Money can't buy happiness - but it's more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than a Yugo.
I originally used the plastic bushings you can buy at Home Depot. Sometimes they work great and sometimes not. My left headlight is still working fine. The right side has failed again after 3 years.
GM originally used semi-soft bushings that eventually get pulverized from the opening and closing shock loads on the bushings inside the headlight gear. The shock loads destroy the bushings rather than the gear. The plastic from HD and the delrin from Eckler's are both hard bushing replacements. I believe that they will cause the gear to end up taking more abuse than necessary, or than designed for by GM. That being the case, I've decided to use the proper part this time. Go to AutoZone or another auto parts retailer and ask for Window Regulator Gear Plugs by HELP!, Part #74410. They sell for about $7.95 a set of 3 bushings. They are semi-soft and will take the opening and closing shock to the haedlight gear instead of stressing the gear. A bit more than HD/Lowes, but less than Eckler's/MidAmerica and it is the better part for the job.

Thanks for taking the time, excellent advice ($11.95 in Canada though )
I did mine last fall, well my right side one anyway.
They are made out of Delrin .375 rod x .400 long if my memory serves me correctly. I made up several extra just to have somes spares. Wasn't sure how long these things last.
