Default Expedition Crashed my c4 UPDATE***

I pulled into a Wal-Greens parking lot..... I had the right of way and was going straight, Well this expedition wasn't paying attention, and they were suppost to stop to turn RIGHT, Basically they had to wait for me to pass so they can turn into the exit, Well the idiots didn't stop, they were to busy laughing it up about who knows what..

I noticed they wernt gonna stop, Even tho there was a stop sign right there for them.. I stopped, They kept going and smashed into my front end.

I came out of my car yelling and screaming, I'm 19 btw, this guy was about 25 comes out Apologizing and saying he has insurance, I flipped.

I really could not believe it. So I called my insurance, gave them his info, Then they told me to call his and file a claim since it wasn't my fault.

All that happened to his car, was the front bumper license plate covering cracked... Biig woop, while my car, well here's pics.

They're sending someout out tomorrow to check out the damage, I called Corvette specialty to request an estimate on body damage.

The headlight is damage, And my front bumper has really deep scratches in it, And also a little bit of cracking.

Looks like I need a new hood, Light, and possibly front bumper.

Anyone estimate the costs? I shouldn't have to pay for a thing, but who knows what can happen with my luck.

UPDATE!!

So after almost a month of dealing with his crappy insurance. Basically, his policy offers 5000 MAX, and that's what they're giving me. The car is still at Corvette specialty, and they're suppost to give me a call back on how much they're gonna charge to fix the car. They told me about 4800 last time, But i'm waiting for the official estimate from them.

Supposidly they had already done it but the paper work is at another office?

So what it comes down to now, is the other guys insurance is giving me 5grand, If for some reason it's not enough. My insurance should cover the rest without the premium going up, then they go after his insurance.

We'll see....

This car is my daily driver, I start college this month and dont have a car.

Good thing I've saved some dinero to purchase a new daily driver. Going for a nice used 4 cylinder gas saver!

If you do replace body panels you also have to factor in the high cost of paintwork to get the panels to match.

That said, the damage seems pretty localized and could have been a whole lot worse. If it were my car I would have a go at it myself with some SMC resin, paint it myself and pocket the rest of the insurance money, but that's assuming the rest of the hood isn't spiderwebbed.

Same thing happened to me when i first got my car a Lexus taking a left out of a Dunkin Donuts wasnt paying attention and hit me in the pass front corner(while i was stopped in the left turning lane with my horn blowing). It cost a hair over 7,000 to repair the car (new bumper cover supports, hood, rim, marker lights). Anyways do it right your not paying for it... go to a reputable body shop and remember money is no object when its on the other peoples dime.

I'm betting at least $5000 damage, probably closer to $8000. Black car with smc, replace the hood, yeah it's an easy fix, but it's almost impossible to keep the repair from shrinking (you'll always see it). New hoods are about $1400 at GM, $700 used, bumper cover, $1200 GM, $400used. Headlight parts, $400-$700 GM, $300 used Also demand a new bumper cover (same reason, black shows EVERYTHING) I've seen them total them with less It all comes down to your adjuster. Glad that's the worse that happened, you can always get another car. Good luck!

Default Similar incident at Wally World.

My wife learned a valuable lesson at the Mart a few years back. Similar to your wreck, except the people decided the next day it wasn't their fault. The moral of the story is carry a camera and call a cop. Even on private property it's good to have what happened in writing.

New hoods do not come with all the little rubber bumbers underneith. Before you hand your car off to a shop, take them off yourself for later reinstallation.

Ouch. Looks like time and materials to fix the hood would be worse than just replacing it.

Always carry a digital camera in your car, no matter what.
Take it to YOUR favorite shop, their insurance has to pay to get it done right. Dont take any chit from them.

If it was some crappy car i would just pocket the money. But it being a vette i would say get it done right. Don't worry about the price b/c you aren't paying. See how well a job they do and if not require them to repaint again. It should be perfect or else.

First thing you are okay and no one got hurt, right? Second is you are lucky because at least they had insurance. Good luck on the repairs and keep us posted on the progress.

I mean, It's very well driveable. And it's not that bad, But considering what the parts costs, and labor, I can see how it all adds up to big money.

It's my Vette, I want to keep this car that I earned forever. And He was insured, I hope they dont come with some BS.

And I pray for the right thing. I know what happened, So I hope he doesnt try to flip it. But yea, I hope it all gets repaired right and everything goes good.

The Headlight doesn't work, and I start college at the end of August, So I need lights to get home. Hopefully its figured out by then.

Thanks for all the input guys, I really really appreciate it

Default Do NOT

under ANY circumstances sign a release for their insurance company until you have THOROUGHLY checked your car over and it's paid for in full.

Since you have to get a new hood anyways you could get soemthing a little different for the same or less than a stock hood. You could talk that over with the shop that is repairing your car.
At least this way you get soemthing cool out of the deal.

OOOUCH!!! Sorry to see this happen to ya. Just be insistant with your body shop/insurance carrier in getting a new GM clamshell. Don't accept anything less. Your Vette was original I'm assuming before...so why should you be punished twice....with the hit...then with inferior aftermarket parts. I wish you good luck!

Yes he's joking. He has a sense of humor than occasionally needs interpretation. But don't fret. It's not a total. It could have been much worse. The damage is pretty much localized. It will be in the thousands to repair correctly, so don't let them try to have you take the car to some mom and pop repair it shop. It needs to be done at a reputable repair shop, preferably one that specializes in Corvettes. Their company will, without a doubt try to get the adjuster to lowball the damage. Make sure you get an estimate from someone not sent by their insurance company. You're in the driver's seat. Remember that. Just because you're young doesn't mean you can be taken advantage of. Stand your ground and be firm. You can do this without coming across nasty or antagonizing. You want to be professional, but insistent.
