Default Strange Climate Control Problem

Sometimes not all of my buttons work. I get in the car and turn on the AC...then drive around a while and adjust the temp a little warmer but try to go back to a lower temp and now the down arrow doesn't work. I can only go hotter. I can also not turn it off. Then I select another setting, taking it out of auto and into recirculate and now the down temp will work. Later the problem returns but opposite. The temp doesn't work in recirculate but I cant get it back in auto. I go to feet only or something, basically I'm hitting all the buttons and only 3 will work. Then for some reason I get it back in auto and I can work all the buttons no problem. This problem seems to come and go. Everything else operates normally. Is ther ea difference between a 94 and a 96. My 96 is spot on.

common problem. easily fixed by taking it appart and cleaning the button contacts. pencil eraser and q-tips with alcohol both work good.

Hello fellow Georgian. I have the exact same problem. Two solutions, one has been posted by ynk1121. I chose to get a replacement since they are relatively cheap. I have not yet installed it because it doesn't bug me too badly.

I had the same problem on my '96. Took the control box apart, cleaned contacts. Works great now.

Mine started acting erratic about a month ago. I usually ride with the windows down and run the a/c on the floor setting (which is the position it appears to be stuck in) and I enjoy the ride and it sure makes it easier to wave at passing vettes Sometimes the C5 & C6 drivers will wave through their windshields as they don't run with their windiws down very often!!!! BTW a warm southern howdie to the fellow Georgian and Carolinian vette drivers.

You probably need to clean the contacts in the control head. It is not a difficult job and can be done in less than an hour.

To remove the head, this is a good tutorial:

http://www.c4guru.com/articles/HeadUnitRemoval.pdf

For more instructions on cleaning and removal try these links:

If you really want to know how the thing works take a look at this link:

That last link will tell you more than you ever want to know!
