Hello,my buddy has a 1963 bug that needs painted and put back together,All the mechanics have been gone through and the body has been blasted and primered. The engine and tranny rebuild w/0 miles, new Michelons, way to much to mention.About 8,000.00 invested, but who really gets their investments back. He is just looking for a crusier, I can have pics if interested. Everything is complete except for windshield.
Also, he'd probably be best selling and then buying a Vette. I can say that most Vette owners aren't interested in a bug, so it'd be rare to find one who wants one and is willing to trade.
I used to have a '72. Wide fiberglass fenders and hood. White car with white spoker wheels (wagon wheels?) Lots of aftermarket bits, including dual carbs. Still had no power.
My buddy and I used to open the glove box and shout down to "Magneto Mouse" for MORE POWER! Never happened.... Probably coz the engine was in the back...:o
The car had electrical problems. Had to put it in neutral and push it down the street and pop the clutch every morning before school. I just watched Little Miss Sunshine last night, and it brought back memories.
My dad used to say "That car doesn't accellerate... It gains momentum."
There are cars I've owned that I would like to have again. The Bug really isn't one of them. But it was my first car.
I don't want anything to do with a trade but I would like to have a bug, they're what 1700lbs ? Wouldn't take a whole hell of alot of power to get one cooking. A Subu boxer 4 with the turbo would do nicely. That wouldbe alot of assache though but a 2100+ c.c. bug botor would kick *** in one of those things if done right.
Used to have a very nicely restored 63..Bright met. blue/white interior, all stock except exhaust. Electrical issues, too. Turn the headlights on and the car dies every time. About the time I took it up a local overpass and got it up on two wheels (extreme winds) I traded it for an M22 that night for my 67 rs. Neat little car though.

I have owned 4 of the danmed things. Driving them in the winter in Michigan is no fun unless you wear a snowmobile suit with insulated boots and gloves. You have to scrape the INSIDE of the windshield as you are driving to remove the frost from your breath on real cold days/nights.

I remember selling my Roadrunner and getting a new 70 Bug, (first gas crisis). Inside a year, the exposed hinges rusted up and I couldn't open the doors. Driving them in Nebraska is alot like Michigan. Lemme see, mint 70 Bug = $7000 (maybe), Mint 68 Roadrunner = $20k (assuredly)>
