Default Interesting Targa Top

I met a guy Saturday at a little auto-get-together. He had a '92 that he had customized the Targa top into a sunroof! Yeah, he purchased an extra targa top on e-bay and had a pop-up sunroof professionally installed in it and I have to admit, it was pretty cool. It looked as if it were factory installed, and was easy to operate (heck of alot easier than removing the Targa) and nearly provided as much sunlight and the open top experience. I had never seen anything like it before and wondered if this was the only guy on Earth to ever even attempt it. He still had his original top at home, so he hadn't buthchered his car in any way. I got alot of respect for the guy for trying it.

This thread slipped doen the line so quick, I'm afraid noone will see it. I was really looking forward to hearing if anyone else had seen something like it before. I e-mailed a Vette friend in Michigan and he said that he has seen one with an electric sunroof installed! I have no idea how that one would be done, but either way, I'm a purist, and I even thought this was an extremely cool mod.

I don't understand the point of this.

if its a clear top.. its clear like a sunroof and lets the sunlight in. If you remove the top, then its like the sunroof is open.

It's like .. um.. i can't even find something synonomous to compare the pointlessness to.

Don't get me wrong, I love crazy car mods, and I am all for cutting up stuff on the Vette to customize it how you like it... but I don't understand this one at all.

Some pics would have helped, as I can't even begin to visualize what you are describing. A better description might help too. Was it a solid or clear top? was it cut out in the middle? was the entire roof made to tilt up? was it a solid top with a clear sunroof middle?... etc... etc... a better description would definately help.

I didn't think I would actually need to emphasize the point that the targa top was SOLID, not clear. The point of it would be this: You can easilly open and close it, you can remove it while sitting in the drivers seat and slip it into the back, and you get to maintain the structural integrity of your C4 without all the bowing and flexing of the body like you get with the targa removed. I found it to be very convenient and clever.

I don't even take my top out. But if I did, this sounds much better.

It makes perfect sense to me. I think it is a neat idea.

I had hoped at least a couple people would have chimed in to say they had seen this before. I guess that '92 was truley unique. He let me sit in it and showed me how easy it was to operate and remove. I do wish I had my camera with me. There were two other Vette enthusiasts there that were pouring all over the idea. Maybe this will be something more heard of in the near future.

I have seen this before. There is a hot blonde running around here in a Torch Red '96 that has a sunroof in her solid top. It's a neat idea to let some hot air out without having to remove the top or open the windows.

Might be a neat thing.

But I can't tell.

After having mine for a couple years, I'm removing or installing in about 2 minutes. Thats not going as fast as I can, it has just gotten to be easy. I perfer to have it off, lots of times its in its holder in the garage.
The wifes car has a sunroof, but its not even close to the effect of having the roof panel removed. Its like a targa wana be.

Still,,,, I wish I had taken photos or gotten that guys e-mail. You guys would really have had to see this to realize it's potential. I guess I shouldn't have brought it up without pics.
