Noticed something a bit odd about my driver side door today. It seems to have lost its alignment somehow. The door will shut but the window is scraping against the paint before the door is closed. Has this happened to any of you before and if so, how does one fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
I dont think this is the problem. I am not having issues with the window, it's the door. If the door is slightly ajar and lift a tad bit, it clears the side and shuts just fine. I rolled the window completely down and when you close the door, you can hear a difference as it shuts, like its scraping against something. (The latch in the door) Its really hard to explain.
Usually the problem is the stop. Check you hinge pins to see if the brass bushings are worn. Check the door gaps for evenness. If the door opens and shuts (latches) smoothly with the window down, it is the above mentioned stop, if not it's the hinge.

I bought an 87 that needed a lot of TLC. The driver's door had taken a beating. The door hung low, and had to be lifted and slammed to make it shut, panel was loose due to the slamming. The courtesy light switch was dead, and the hatch release was dead.
Ultimately, the misalignment of the door caused it to rub on the clamshell. I told you all that junk so you don't feel so bad!
I took mine to a body shop that I've used for years. The guy is good to me. He aligned the door, (at the hinges), and didn't beat me up on price. I can't tell you how exactly he did it, but it sort of sounds like you're having a problem along those lines.
