I want to prep my car myself and have it painted. There was talk of starting a paint and body forum. Did this ever happen ? If so ,I can't find it. How about a point in the right direction.......
Before you do all that. Ask the shop that is painting it what they want you to do. If you use chemicals and they don't know it , it could mess things up. I JUST PAINTED MINE. tHE PREP WORK IS LONG AND HARD. sHOOTING THE PAINT WAS A PIECE OF CAKE. tHE CLEAR IS ANOTHER STORY. Opps sorry...did'nt mean to hit the caps. You can see the finished product. I posted pics yesterday. Thread was called Reel live pics...yike.....
First buy a truck load of sandpaper, second, buy a boxcar full of beer.

Seriously, if you want to do this, select a painter and ask him what he wants done. You can do hours, no make that days, of needless work or you can really screw something up without knowing it. Your painter can point you in the right direction.
How well its prepped will be the main influence in how the car looks when its finished. Alot of people will say painting a car is 90% prep work, and I tend to agree. And as Batwing and Muffin said, make sure you talk to the painter and do the work right.
