Ok, fellas', I don't know where to start looking for this strange sound coming from behind the drivers seat area on my 96' Coupe. I thought it was suspension related, but not so sure now.
If it's a smooth road, the rear suspension goes through it's travel just fine and there's no noise, but as soon as the road turns rough, I hear something 'loose' and banging against something else. It sounds hollow (hitting the body?!?!), not solid like a suspension part.
Maybe the sidelight assembly or the electric antenna assembly...?!
Hi- Once again, from the description it could be (and probably is) suspension bushings. Look up in there and see if any rubber is worn or missing. If your car is all original they will be pretty worn at the very least! I can't stress the point enough, if your car is eight years or older, your bushings are now not what they should be!!!! Sloppy steering? Look at the bushings! Chattering from here and there? Look at the bushings! Car all over the road when you hit uneven surfaces? Look at the bushings!
Oh, I forgot to mention. Check that your spare tire carrier is up in there right and tight. They can make one hell of a racket on choppy roads if loose.
