I read on this forum some time ago about repairing a cruise control. It had something to do with straightening a wire rod in the steering column. I do not know what the problem is. It does not respond at all. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.
Check the cable that attaches to the throttle body. Follow that cable all the way back to the cruise control assembly. Check for vacuum leaks on all the hoses that come from the main unit. I had one split on me down near the carbon canister. If all the vacuum hoses are ok then look inside the flexible rubber bellows looking thing to make sure the chain is not broken.
Look up the troubleshooting for cruise in your service manual for other tips.
I have a problem with mine too. Will work 1st time I try it and if I hit a bump in the road it will shut off. I can reset it 1 or2 times and then it will not work again until next time I drive car.
When I had problems with the cruise on my 93, it was a vacuum leak at a connection right near the battery. I had put in a new battery and bumped the vacuum line and it split. I clipped the end off, reconnected it, and it worked fine after that. Check the simple things first!
.......doubt that's it.....it sounds like a ck valve issue (damaged, vac hose off, vac supply hose off manifold)......
That was my problem when mine quit working.. i was working around the distro area and broke one of the brittle old vac lines. I replaced it with some vac lines I picked up cheap at autozone. Worked fine after that.
