i dont know if people noticed but some 18 wheelers have round tail light like the c4,and at a truck store i was at a few months back i saw clear LED tail lights, looked sweet,i was wondering if these lights have to be red(legal or not?) i'll see if i can find some pics!
As long as the resulting light showing out the back is red, thats all that's required I believe.
If you got some crazy hyper white LEDs, as long as you had a red lens covering them up then it should still be legal.
Just use this as a rule of thumb for legal issues:
White headlights up front
amber turn signals all around
red tail lights in back
Blue is illegal period if seen from the outside of the car.
The "blue" headlights are borderline, Ive heard of people getting tickets for those too because they were too blue.
I am going to experiment with a couple cold cathode round tubes in the tail lights. YOu can get them in various sizes that come on the computer case fans. They have instant on/off useability and are crazy bright. I was thinking of making some tail light "halos" to put under the lense.
Most states require a red reflector on the back of cars so they can be seen at night from behind it a tail lamp is out or if the car is parked along a road at night. Tail lamp lenses have a built in red reflector.
Going to an all-white lens may get you a visit from the long arm of the law if your state requires a red reflector.
nope, most states require a red reflector, you can get around this by putting a red reflector on your bumper... this is how many auto makers are able to get away with all clear tail lights
