Default 96 Console Question

Does anyone know what type of material the part of the console that surrounds the shifter and seat controls is made of in a 96. I have noticed that when my car gets hot inside, this part of the console gets very sticky and is easily scratched when hot. It appears to be made of something different than the rest of the dash area or either someone has put something on it that has made it sticky sometime in the past. Looking for suggestions on what best to clean this with or any other experiences with a "sticky" console.

That is the "Dulso" finish on your console. Nobody did anything to it, it came that way. When new, they are very nice. But they scratch very easy.

Here is an article about refinishing that might be good reading.

The Dulso finish is actually just a thin rubber coating.

What is best used to clean it tomake it appear half way decent without refinishing, which seems like a "big" job to me...

Sand and repaint it. You can get it to look factory and it will last longer. See link below and also do a search for console.
