Just curious on how you can tell if a car is a real Ruby? I went to the 40thregistry.com site and it seems like no one is running it anymore.
Is the VIN Different? What prevents someone of saying they have a Ruby and just painted a plain ol' 93? Yea I know the Z25 should be listed under the glove box lid, suppose it's gone?
That isn't a real 40th anniversary car. The interior isn't the Ruby Red, the wheels don't have the correct center caps and it says the paint is fresh Ruby Red & Silver. It might be a 93 but not a real Ruby. There are probably plenty of other things that don't match but those are the obvious ones looking at the pictures.
A ruby is, well, ruby red with BURGUNDY interior. All 93's are 40th aniversary models. It looks like he tried to go with a 95 pace car scheme, with the black rose rather than the correct dark purple metallic. Not a bad price though.
I'd be REALLY leery of someone who would so blatantly mis-represent any car. But then again, he's not trying to sell it to anyone who knows the difference.

I was just informed this car might not have this full package option. (RPO Z25; $1,455.00). Z25 cars featured a special "Ruby Red" paint, Ruby Red leather power sport seats with headrest embroidery and emblems.
BUT IS DOES HAS HAVE THE HEADREST 40th ANNIVERSARY EMBROIDERY!!!!!!!!! ALSO STATED IN LISTING THIS CAR HAS BEEN REPAINTED NOT FACTORY OEM COLOR!!!!

Only ORIGINAL Rubies have the Ruby Red interior, chrome 40th anniversary badges, chrome front and rear Corvette emblems and the Ruby wheel centers. Ruby verts were the only ones that had the Ruby Red cloth tops. Note that I emphasized ORIGINAL. If memory serves me correctly all 93s had the 40th Anniversay embroidered on the sport seats and were technically 40th Anniversary vettes. The Ruby package was a designated distinction.
Short of the having a copy of the original window sticker that matches the VIN...there is to my knowledge not any way to confirm the RPO package without checking the 40th Registry or requesting a copy of the window sticker from the Corvette museum. Just remember that in 15 years there could have been any change or mix of colors to a 93 to make a Ruby clone.
You can take the VIN number to a dealership and thay can look up all the RPO codes from that. I am not sure they will do it if its not your car though.
iF THE rpo CODES ARE STILL ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE, LOOK FOR RPOZ25 THAT IS THE FACTORY CODE. iT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS ONE WHICH IS FOR SALE

The 83 Corvette designation is really a fuzzy issue for most people. There were a small number of early 83 C4s built. There were enough quality issues that GM execs delayed the traditional September release in 1983. The few that they made were deemed substandard and never released. If memory serves me correctly...all but one was destroyed. The issues were corrected enough that Chevy released a run in January of 84. January was the traditional 1/2 year designation for cars so instead of calling them 83 1/2s they went ahead and designated them as 1984s. Technically for 1984 models...they were released 8 months early. There were 83s built...the public never had the oportunity to buy one. No matter how bad they might have been...could you imagine what one of those rare cars would be worth today?

On a slightly different note, I have to repaint the hood of my 93 ruby and I bought the paint this afternoon. $165 a quart just for the base coat (PPG DBU)<----He's about the right color!
